Breast Surgery

Breast surgery is a major workload in our team. We adopt MDT - multidisciplinary team approach for breast cancer patient management with close liaison with different departments including radiology, pathology, nuclear medicine and oncology. We also had our case manager to take care of all breast cancer patients in our hospital since 2011. Our breast surgery services include vacuum assisted excision for benign breast lesions, ductoscopy for nipple discharge inverstigation, ROLL - radioguided occult lesion localization and stereostatic guided biopsy for abnormal mammographic microcalcifications, sentinel lymph node biopsy. Reconstruction procedures include myocutaneous flap and insertion of implants for will be offered for selected breast cancer patients.

Thyroid Surgery

Thyroid surgery is another major workload of our team. Preoperative ultrasound neck and fine needle aspiration will be arranged for our patients. With an increasing demand on the cosmetic outcome, we started to provide endoscopic thyroidectomy as another option of treatment for thyroid condition in 2009. We adopted the bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA) originated from Korea for endoscopic thyroidectomy. Soon after the installation of robotic da Vinci system® in our hospital, we started to do robotic surgery on selected cases. Nowadays, there is an increasing proportion of patient choosing endoscopic or robotic thyroid surgery. We have completed more than 100 cases of endoscopic thyroidectomy and more than 40 cases of robotic thyroidectomy. The cosmetic result is well accepted by the patient with minimal morbidity.

Parathyroid Surgery

The idea of minimal access surgery is also developed for patients suffering from primary hyperparathyroidism. The use of Sastamibi scan, together with ultrasound neck and 3-dimensional computer tomography help us to localize the site of the diseased parathyroid gland accurately with skin marking. Therefore, a small incision can be made in the neck for subsequent parathyroidectomy. The initial result was promising and the successful localization rate was near 90%.

Adrenal Surgery

The adrenal glands are two small endrocrine organs sitting on top of the kidneys bilaterally. A number of diseases may arise from these organs which would require their surgical removal. Laparoscopic adrenalectomy has become the international gold standard for the excision of adrenal tumours less than 10cm since its first description in 1992. We have employed this minimally invasive technique since 1996 and as a result, we are very experienced in employing the necessary skills for this operation. Furthermore, since the establishment of our Robotic operation theater in 2009, we have applied our existing technique with the adjunct of the da Vinci robotic system thereby further improving our post-operative outcomes. Our relentless effort for excellence have decreased the post-operative hospital stay and wound pain for our patients; while improving their recovery time and cosmetic results in comparison to the traditional open technique for adrenalectomy.
