Minimal Access Surgery Training Centre - Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital

Minimal Access Surgery Training Centre (MASTC), located on the second floor of the HKEC Training Centre for Healthcare Management & Clinical Technology, Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, provides a robust training environment with cutting-edge facilities and high-fidelity simulators to enhance learning experience of surgical professionals.

Training Equipment

MASTC acquired various types of high-ended computer simulators to train surgeons or surgical trainees in specific types of laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures without the use of animals or cadavers before conducting real surgeries. MASTC also offers Pulsating Organ Perfusion (P.O.P.) simulation trainer in which training can be carried out under the most realistic conditions on animal organs or organ complexes with the support of a pulsating pump.

LAP Mentor
To provide a wide array of hands-on laparoscopic training cases from essential laparoscopic skills to advanced complete clinical procedures.

URO Mentor
To simulate cystoscopy and ureteroscopy procedures using actual case scenarios, featuring authentic rigid and flexible cystoscopes and ureteroscopes, including working channels for tool insertion.

GI Mentor
To simulate gastrointestinal upper and lower endoscopic procedures, starting from simple diagnostic procedures to advanced Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) procedures.

UroTrainer / GynTrainer (Multi-trainer)
For UroTrainer: to train for TURP and TURB procedure
For GynTrainer: to train for gynaecological procedures such as speculum examination and cervical examination

Endovascular Simulator
To mimic a full body mannequin with a stationary simulation solution for endovascular surgery training.

Pulsating Organ Perfusion (P.O.P.) simulation trainer
Training can be carried out under the most realistic conditions on animal organs or organ complexes with the support of a pulsating pump.

Robotic Surgical System
A real robotic surgical system was retired from operating theatre and relocated at MASTC for training purpose.

Laparoscopic Surgical Skill Board
Provision of different training modules for trainees to build basic laparoscopic skills.

Suture Training Model
Silicone suture practice pad together with a full set of essential tools allows trainees to practise suturing techniques.
